About Us
Bilingual, Cooperative Preschool Founded in 1968
Our Mission
Conceived in the spirit of progress following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., New Horizons’ mission is to operate an independent, non-sectarian cooperative preschool that brings together children and parents from groups traditionally separated down ethnic, economic, and educational lines.
New Horizons adopted our bilingual model in 1990 in response to a community need in Boulder and driven by our families. We have been in the same location since 1970, behind the Friends Meeting House in North Boulder, and renovated our playground in 2013.
Inclusive Community
We value diversity in culture, class, language, ethnicity, ability, and individual expression, and believe in an environment where each person is honored and respected for their differences and commonalities.
Of the children who attend our preschool each school year, 50% speak Spanish as their first or only language and more than 50% are from immigrant families. Each year, more than 65% of our children are from families with low- to very low-income and receive tuition assistance from the school. Families qualify for tuition assistance based on our sliding scale which incorporates Boulder County Income categories. Special education students may be included in all classes.
Colorado Shines + Evaluation Results
The success of our 53-year old model is mirrored in the success of our students. Regardless of income, race, or gender, all New Horizons’ students thrive socially and academically, consistently achieving growth in all developmental areas.
In 2019, we earned a Level 4 through Colorado Shines; we are so proud that the quality of our dynamic, inquiry-based, student-driven curriculum, our staff, and our facility was evaluated with such high marks!
